Harvest Notes
The first vintage including more varietals than just Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah we sprinkled in a little dash of Graciano and a drop of Mourvèdre to really add to the layers of depth and complexity in this wine. Fermented in stainless steel tanks using specialized yeast for optimal extraction of color, tannin, flavors and textures. The wines are racked only once for blending in the Spring following the initial harvest and then again to tank for bottling the following year.
Before Cairjn came into existence, Andy was talking with his partner Robert about, "if we were to make wine together..." and they dreamt up making a Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah blend because it's a blend they both love and symbolic of the two partners and families coming together to create Cairjn. The addition of the Graciano and Mourvèdre is symbolic of the two wives that are such a crucial part of the winery (or blend in this case) but rarely see the credit they deserve. Cheers to Michele and Jackie!

Intense and nutty aromas of pecan, peppercorn and chile husk give depth to the vibrant strawberry and black cherry scents on the nose of this blend 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Syrah, 5% Graciano and 3% Mourvèdre. The palate is thick in texture, showing blackberry, porcini dust and creamy mocha-espresso flavors on the finish. — MK

Based on 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Syrah, 5% Graciano, and 3% Mourvèdre, the 2022 Blend No. 3 reveals darker berries, pepper, leafy herbs, chocolate, and classic Paso Robles limestone-like minerality. Aged 18 months in 85% new and 15% used French oak barrels, it’s medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe, well-structured tannins and a terrific finish. It’s great today and should keep for a solid decade or more. Drink 2025-2037. — JD
